I teach at a custody facility but my students are considered students of the local high school and I am employed by my board of education. I have never been given a copy of the curriculum planner CD. How do I get one at what appears to be this late date?
I would like to know where I can get a cd of the Ontario Curriculum Unit Planner.
I know it exists but it seems that my board does not have one or is not willing to share.
Regarding the Runtime release of the Planner, how does a school receive the latest versions of the Planner, and do we pay again for each CD?
I asked my principal about the Ontario Curriculum Unit Planner CD's and he had not heard of these CD's.
The school I teach at does not have these CD's:
1. The Planner
2. Training Materials
I am currently enrolled in the Queens-Trent Concurrent Education Course and will be Graduating in 2 years. I am presently doing placements in the classroom and developing Lesson Plans. I have already started a collection of Plans to keep for my future classroom. My question is whether I would be able to purchase the Curriculum Planner to use now, prior to actually working in a classroom?
I'm a teacher at Christian Island School (Beausoleil Ed Authority, Ontario ) and we do not have an OESS representative. How can I get a copy of the March 2001 planner ? Who could I contact to deliver an inservice for the teachers at our school ? Thanks.
I know that you have sent the planner CDs to all public boards. Is there any way to get a copy if you teach (as I do) in an independent school?
Sincerely,
Jen Krashinsky
I am a consultant for the OCCSB and was at the training session for the ECU Project last year. Can you tell me how I can obtain extra copies of the CD "Elementary Curriculum Unit Project - Implementation Support Document"? We have three new schools this year who did not receive copies. Please let me know.
These schools will also need copies of the Curriculum Planner as well.
I received a copy of the "Official Planner 2002" and want to import my units from my previous Planner.
When I went to import my units from the March 2001 (v2.5) a message came up that said I was trying to import a fp3 file and it needed to be converted to fp5 first.
How do I do this?
My computer operating system is Windows ME.
I can't create Blackline Masters because the planner is expecting me to use Appleworks (clarisworks) software.
Is there any way I can change the configerations so that it interfaces with Windows software?
Hello
I am coordinator of staff development (among other portfolios) at Cambrian College. The Curriculum Unit Planner was recently described to our faculty by a member of one of the provinces teacher's colleges who came he to provide professional development training. I asked to see the CD (Mar 2001 v. 2.5) to review the licensing. Having done so, I am not certain whether it extends to teachers of an Ontario College of Applied Arts and Technology.
Can someone please clarify what, if any, use of this software is permitted by colleges and their teachers?
I am currently in possession of the CD, and do not require therefore delivery of same, unless the use of this particular version at the college is not permitted (in which case I would return it to its source), and another version is appropriate.
If this resource proves useful to college faculty, then I would like to know if it can be installed on the college's network, or whether it would have to be shared for stand alone installation only. (Assuming that even that use is licensed.)
Thank you for your consideration of this matter.
How do I access the Special Education Planner that was to be released December 2002 on the OCUP site?
How would I find our more about "designing down," e.g. starting with a culminating task and then developing your unit?
How can I get the software to create my own unit plans?
I teach in a private high school in Toronto. Where can my school buy this software? What are your prices?
(I was at a workshop at Queen's Faculty of Education and just discovered it -- wonderful work!!)
I haven't seen any items for secondary school courses. Is this project restricted to Grades 1 to 8 only?
Hi,
I was recently told to go to this site in order to get some units for a 3/4 split class. Do I need a certain CD Rom in order to access units, or can I download them off my home computer?
I have never heard of this particular software before in the board, nor has my principal. Could you tell me how much it would cost for me to purchase a copy for myself? At this time of year it is nearly impossible to reach someone at the board offices.
I am trying to undate my web index for the new March 2001 release. I have successfully installed the March release. I am following the
instructions for updating my web index and when I get to #3 Click the "Update Web Index" button I get the message PLNR_FTP.exe is
missing from the plan temp directory.
What do I do?
The grade 9 course profiles are available on CD-ROM in a variety of print formats. We would like to have a planner format in order to import the course profiles into the Planner. Is this electronic version available...if not, will it be in the future...and if so, when? Thanks, Marilyn
How do you make your own rubrics using the Curriculum Planner?
The default application for the creation of blackline masters in the planner is Appleworks.
Is their any way that users can change this to something different(i.e. MS Office)?
We've had difficulty running Appleworks on our Network, consequently, MS Word is the only word processor currently available to our networked schools.
How can I get a CD of the planner for our independent school ?
Is there a French version of the Unit Planner available in schools at the moment ? If not, when will there be one and how can I obtain it ?
Are there no sample units for grade 11 an 12 Canada and world studies?
I am looking for software to map to the curriculum and serve as a lesson planner for my secondary adult classes.
How do I get on the latest version?
Importing
I am presently working on a 6/7 social studies unit. I found a unit written using the Curriculum Planner entitled ABORIGINAL PEOPLES/ NEW FRANCE, The growth of a nation. It was completed September 1999by the Catholic Curriculum cooperative (Central & Western Ontatrio Region). Two questions:
1: Are there an copyright regulations that stop me from using some of the information in this unit?
I would like to include backround information, mostly in narrative form, about different parts of Canada's history such as creation myths, the Land Bridge, biographical information about explorers ...
2: Where can I access information that can be used for free for educational purposes?
Q: I have transferred a unit between computers via CD and am encountering difficulties during the import process. Why is this happening? What is the solution? How do I avoid this issue?
Regardless of the unit I choose to import, I keep getting another copy of the same unit appearing in my Planner.
General Function
Is there a way to access Achievement Charts through the planner, to incorporate them into a program or unit?
I was wondering if you could help me. I am designing some units for the Gr. 11 biology, chemistry, and workplace science courses. At the beginning of each course description, there is a list of skills that are overall expectations for the course. (e.g. curriculum document, pg. 12, it reads - Throughout the course, students will - and then lists about a dozen expectations...)
Are these expectations on the Curriculum Planner? If not, is there a way to get them added? This would be extraordinarily helpful, because these are supposed to be assessed in EACH unit, and these expectations need to be built into rubrics!
I am the computer volunteer in my school. My program support teacher asked me about a detailed form or specifications on the planner for special needs students. Is there anything on there like that that you know of?
Thanks
This question relates to the March 2001 version of OCUP ...
In the Authoring section, is there a way to change the default grade level? As an IT Consultant who is returning to a grade 4 classroom, it would be nice to change the default from 5 to 4. Over time, this will save a large number of keystrokes.
I am trying to create a rubric for a few of my subtasks. However, when I click on the + sign to "select the expectations for this rubric from the ones chosen for this subtask" I get a screen which should display expectations but nothing is there. I can't choose anything and I have to go back. How can I create a rubric without expectations? My unit is due on Monday and all I have left are the rubrics. If I could get some help soon I would really be appreciative!
Thank you,
Erica Raymond
Our writing team was informed that the "lite" version should be used. I have the March 2001 CD. What is the "lite" version?
How does one access the catholic expectations in the Curriculum Planner? I have entered user info as Catholic, but I do not see the Catholic expectations in the planner.
How does one change the user information? For example, can I remove a user from the program? How can I change a password or school information if I change schools?
You recently answered a similar question but I didn't understand the reply. I am writing a unit in the Open environment. There are 11 subtasks. No matter what I do the culminating task always ends up as the third subtask. And of course, the description ends up in the opening pages too. How do I remove that designation from the 3rd subtask and attach it to subtask 11?
I have a unit almost completed in the open mode. I've decided that I need to add another subtask. How do I add change my current culminating subtask so that the new subtask is the culminating one?
I am working on a writing team in which each member is writing a subtask for a shared unit. Each member has exported his/her subtask as a unit and copied it to a floppy. I am able to import each of these units separately but what I really need to do is to merge the subtasks from each of these separate units into a single unit and reorder them appropriately. Is this possible? Or do I have to enter the subtasks in manually to create a new unit containing all of them?
I thought I was in the open mode but I can only get 3 subtasks. If I made a mistake how can I change to the Open option?
Is there a way to take out some of the examples from the Curriculum Expectations?
We are having difficulty adding more than one author to a unit. Is there any way three or four authors can be inserted in the 'log on' page?
When running the speller in the subtask description, the word "mins" came up (as it is not in the dictionary and you can't add to it). Unfortunately one of the writer's hit the CHANGE button, so instead of "mins" it says "ins". This field is locked from the desktop. Is there any easy way to fix this? Can you add to the speller so that it doesn't happen in the future.
Thanks
I have seen a document printed from the planner which shows the codes for all goals and contents for one grade level on one page. The number of times something is selected or evaluated is also included beside each code. How do I print this page?
I have multiple listings for units in the CD Catalog section of the Unit Browser. I believe this happened from clicking the CD Index button more than once. How do I eliminate the additional listings.
I am unsure as to the purpose of the library in Version 2.5. When I import a unit, it goes into the My Work section. Is there a way of moving units into the Library and why would one want to do this?
Do you have a text that I could use as a guide instead of using a computerized planner (just as a reference in order that I may have it with me when I am developing curriculum and can refer to specific data/templates).
How can I remove from the second page "Based on a unit by:..."?
Printing
Can I obtain hard copies of the units? I don't want to print them all from my home computer.
I have gone out of the on screen sight when explaining my activities. Therefore, when I print the unit I only get half of my explaination. Is there any way to get the unit to print all of my work?
How can I remove the header and footer from the planner. When printing, many of the subtasks, and time allotments are printing overtop of the header or footer making it difficult to read and sloppy as well.
When I print out a unit in the lite environment, the subtitle of the unit prints on top of or underneath the main title making it look very sloppy. This happens only on the UNIT OVERVIEW sheets (Page 1 and 2). Is there any way I can correct this problem?
I like the Planner. Is there any way to print a page or some pages while in "Preview" mode?
Is there any to stop the preview other than exiting FMP altogether?
Exporting
I am presently teaching a Computers in the Classroom specialist course, and one assignment involves preparing a unit using the OCUP since this is an important initiative.
When a unit is imported, the registered user of that copy of the program automatically gets author credit for the unit, and the actual author name appears to be lost. For example, when I import all of the units from my students, I become the author of all of those units. It hardly seems fair or proper.
I am trying to share units between computers. I "save" a file to export to the desktop, I then copy the file to a floppy disk, and try to open it again. The file opens, but not into an "authoring environment". It is in a format I cannot recognize. It won't show up under "my files" in the library either.

Last year there was a CD released (by the province???) that had dozens of units published by the public & separate school boards on all of the grade curriculum topics. (They were usually about 100 pages each on adobe format.) Are these on your site and if so where? If not, could you please suggest where these are available?
When will you start to develop/share highschool units? We're struggling with new curriculum and are desperate for resources such as the ones you have been developing for the elementary level. Many highschool teachers are turning off the curriculum planner because there has been nothing targetted for them, and they are feeling alienated from the software and/or ministry representatives in charge of developing these resources.

I have a unit that has been written on the curriculum planner that I would like to have posted on my own website.
Is this possible and if so how?
How can get Units from a web server/page and then access it remotely via tcp/ip on the web in the planner? Can I click on it in the browser and have it automatically open up in the planner? I do not want local copies but want to collaboratively work using the one copy on the web server accessing it through a web page.
How do I down load the zip file (realtime?) when the file is larger than one disk? When the download gets to a full disc it just goes off, it does not request me to insert another disc or give any further instructions. The instructions only give me the choice to save it to a disc and not to my hard drive. Thanks.
How do I submit a unit to be circulated through your web site?
I would like to be informed of who I need to contact regarding uploading a Curriculum Planner unit. If you could pass along a contact name and number it would be greatly appreciated.
Where can I access "Checklist for Teaching/Learning Strategies"?
other than the OCUP website, is there some site where i would be able to trade and look at units with other teachers?

Our writing team has referenced the Ontario Curriculum Unit Planner for terms related to teaching strategies and evaluation methods in two appendices. The document we have created is a course profile for university and college studies in literature (ETS 4U / ETS 4C)and is being submitted to the Ontarion Curriculum Centre (OCC).
May we have specific written permission to include in our documents reference to terms mentioned in the teacher companions?
Why isn't the planner available online. The limited amount of copies sent to the schools is grossly inadequate.
Moreover, has the ministry of education included an electronic grade book to accompany this planner?

When looking at the expectations and after completing a find by a keyword search, it would be nice to be able to print the list of expectations that were found.
A guidance teacher for elementary needed a list of expectations from K - 8 that dealt with conflict...this was a great tool to find them; however, it was too much to copy each and every one. It would have been great to print the list.
Just a thought.
