| Guidelines for the Copying and Distribution of Units and Profiles
The Ontario Curriculum Unit Planner has been developed as a software
application by the Ministry of Education to support educators in
the development, sharing, and managing of instructional materials
that help implement the Ontario curriculum. To this end, the Ministry
has sponsored the development of curriculum units and course profiles,
in conjunction with Boards of Education and the Ontario Curriculum
Centre (OCC) and placed these units and profiles on the Ontario
Curriculum Unit Planner (OCUP) website and/or the OCC website for
public access and download.
1. Teachers, boards, associations, and organizations are welcome
to copy, edit, and adapt these units and profiles created in the
Planner – including individual activities (subtasks), combinations
of activities (units), combinations of units (elementary programs
and secondary course profiles), instructional materials (blackline
masters, resources lists etc.) – for non-profit educational
purposes.
2. Teachers, boards, associations, and organizations may copy,
for educational purposes, any instructional materials (blackline
masters, resources lists etc.) that were created as part of Ministry
sponsored units/profiles separately to a disk for free distribution
as long as the following statement which reflects the copyright
and contextual integrity of the unit/profile, appears on the packaging
of any such disk:
 |
"The teaching materials included on this disk were originally
part of instructional units created using the Ontario Curriculum
Unit Planner and are copyright by The Queen's Printer for Ontario,
2001. They are made available on this disk with permission.
In using these instructional materials, you may wish to consult
the original units at www.ocup.org for the context provided
in the original unit regarding teaching/learning and assessment
strategies."

3. Teachers, boards, associations, and organizations may include
and or combine their own developed units and profiles with Ministry-sponsored
units and profiles (e.g., from OCUP/OCC) on a compilation CD under
the following circumstances:
- the download of Ministry-sponsored units and/or profiles (e.g.,
from OCUP/OCC) to a disk for instructional, storage, and access
purposes is for subject specific and limited purpose (e.g., family
studies related units) that does not duplicate the entire content
or province-wide purpose of the OCUP process and website;
- any products (e.g., CD-ROM, website or printed documents) that
contain both Ministry-sponsored units and/or profiles (e.g., from
OCUP/OCC) and units and/or profiles developed by teachers, boards,
associations, and organizations must be offered at no cost except
for duplication, shipping, and handling;
- other units and profiles by teachers, boards, associations,
and organizations, developed independently of Ministry sponsorship,
may be priced separately only when available separately.
4. Teachers, boards, associations, and organizations who develop
complementary components [e.g., individual activities (subtasks),
combinations of activities (units), instructional materials (blackline
masters, resources lists, etc.] to Ministry-sponsored units and
profiles and wish to offer them for sale are encouraged to package
and identify the "value added" components of their work
as discrete entities to allow for easy importing, exporting, copying,
and managing of instructional materials by teachers using the Planner.
