Revised Units for 2005

Eighty-one Social Studies, History, Geography and integrated units have been updated with links to the new expectations for Social Studies, History, Geography and Mathematics. Subject experts under contract to the Ministry reviewed the original units and replaced the original expectations with the revised expectations while also reviewing the rubrics and blackline masters.

Thirty-two Mathematics units have been removed from the site since they could not be effectively revised. New Mathematics resources links will be added to the Resources pages in the coming weeks.

In order to download the Planner .zip and .sit files and use them in your Planner, you must first run the Planner Updater 2005 CD-ROM to upgrade your Planner files with the new expectations.

Elementary Curriculum Units Project

Phase I of the Elementary Curriculum Units Project produced sample curriculum units for teachers of single and combined grade classes, grades 1 to 8 in the areas of Mathematics, Science and Technology and Social Studies, History, and Geography. The units and an Implementation Support document were released on a CD-ROM and in limited print copy in November 2001 to every district school board in Ontario.
Phase II of the project followed a similar development process in the subject areas of Health and Physical Education, Language, and the Arts. The Council of Ontario Directors of Education (CODE) and the Institute for Catholic Education (ICE) coordinated writing teams from public and Catholic school boards. The units were reviewed by a team of professional colleagues, including school librarians, teachers with ESL and Special Education qualifications, and teachers with assessment expertise. In addition, the Ontario Curriculum Centre (OCC) developed and managed a professional peer review process as well as the editing and publishing process. Catholic units had an additional theological review as part of the process.
The curriculum units are considered to be resources written by teachers for teachers. The units were written using the Ontario Curriculum Unit Planner. Accessibility to the units in electronic format provides teachers with the opportunity to adapt the units to meet local needs (e.g., delivery in a combined and/or multi-grade class).
